Meditation Practice for Everyday Life

Lakeland Insight Meditation Group (LIMG) is a non-profit corporation committed to bringing meditation practice and Buddhist teachings into everyday life. We do this by hosting classes, retreats, workshops and social gatherings that are open to the public. Our practice is spiritual in nature and is not a form of worship. We welcome all people of various cultures and spiritual beliefs and have hosted a diverse group of participants.

We began in 2002 as a small group of meditators who gathered once a month in a downtown Lakeland office building. Over time, our community grew, and we began offering one-day courses, retreats, and regular weekly dharma gatherings. All of our programs are offered in the insight meditation tradition (also known as Vipassana or mindfulness meditation) of Theravada Buddhism.

LIMG became a nonprofit organization in 2020, and in 2021 we offered our first full year of scheduled classes and dharma gatherings. LIMG offers a regular forum for the practice, discussion and understanding of Vipassana meditation teachings. We value each person, and have an intention to promote peace and safety in our world. We teach meditation to newcomers, practice meditation together, study the works of master teachers, and support each other as we improve our lives through meditation.

“We must experience the Truth in a direct, practical and real way. This is only possible in the stillness and silence of the mind; and this is achieved by means of meditation”

- Samael Aun Weor

Our Purpose

As a nonprofit, LIMG is dedicated to offering spiritual teachings and meditation practice rather than earning a profit. LIMG is supported by volunteers and is sustained entirely by donations. In the spirit of generosity and gratitude that is at the heart of Buddhist tradition, we offer our programs at no cost or at a minimal cost that allows us to cover related expenses.

The stated purpose of LIMG is to:

  1. Make the Buddha’s teachings in the Buddhist Theravada tradition available to all those who seek it;
  2. Develop and support a Buddhist spiritual community for the integration of Buddhist meditation in everyday life by hosting Sangha sessions, classes, retreats, workshops, discussion and social gatherings;
  3. Inspire the growth of wisdom, compassion and morality through the application of mindfulness for the deepening of awareness.

We invite you to explore our website and hope to see you at some of our classes or programs!
